It certainly lives up to its name! The Bay of Plenty is an uncrowded and unique surf destination with 6 waves that break in 3 different directions and can handle any tide and almost any wind direction. The Banyak Surf Bungalows are strategically positioned for the sole purpose of giving surfers easy access to great waves. The BSB surf camp is surrounded by a diverse range of surfing spots that include novice/ learn to surf/ intermediate waves like Kiddys Korner, Dindo’s and Shortys, to the more serious waves like Lolok Point, Gunturs and Camel Backs. With a multitude of setups and 13 hours of daylight, there is always a rideable wave to charge. Apart from the local waves in the bay, there are also a few other closely guarded secret spots close by. We can also use our boats to access the classic but fickle breaks like Treasure Island, Cobra Logs and Turtles, which on their day can really light up!

Gunturs

Wave quality: Very Good
Experience: Intermediate
Consistency: High
Wave Type: Reef
Direction: Right

A short paddle in front of your bungalow lies the gem of the bay, Gunturs. A right point break with two barreling sections that often link up to offer up to 5-second barrels. "A perfect indo wave, without the indo crowds."

Lolok Point

Wave quality: Very Good
Experience: Intermediate
Consistency: Moderate/High
Wave Type: Reef
Direction: Right

This outside left is an excellent wave that starts breaking at 4ft and holds even the biggest swells! A medium to heavy swell will produce fast, long and hollow wrapping walls that head into shacking sections over the inside reef. A bigger board is recommended.

Treasure Island

Wave quality: Excellent
Experience: Intermediate/Advanced
Consistency: Moderate
Wave Type: Reef
Direction: Right

Treasure Island is one of Indonesia's famed right hander's. If you're looking for long rides with multiple barreling sections then you have found the wave of your dreams. This wave truly has everything you are looking for. Works on larger swells .

Dindo’s

Wave quality: Very Good
Experience: Intermediate
Consistency: Moderate
Wave Type: Reef
Direction: Left

This is one of those waves you think about in your dreams - a perfect left hander. It needs a moderate to big swell from the SW to W quadrant or small swells from the W to NW. It's protected from S winds & offshore in SE to NE winds. It throws up long playful semi barreling waves and is the only spot in the Banyaks to surf if you’re not a hell-man. We’ve been surfing it since 2005. For all abilities and styles.

Camel Backs

Wave quality: Very Good
Experience: Advanced
Consistency: Moderate/High
Wave Type: Reef
Direction: Right

Camel Backs is just few minutes paddle from Gunturs. Our guests where the 1st ever surfers to charge this wave in 2007! At take off this wave has 2 thick humps that rear up from deep water then abruptly merge into 1 making for a backdoor pit that rivals any of the great waves of Hawaii. Camels will certainly test even the hardest of Indo chargers. Also a perfect wave for bodyboarders "Surf at your own risk."

Cobra’s

Wave quality: Excellent
Experience: Intermediate/Advanced
Consistency: Moderate/High
Wave Type: Reef
Direction: Left

A world class reeling left hander that breaks with flawless cylindrical consistency, this truly is a tube riders dream. One of the more consistent waves in the area – it’s a real swell magnet that breaks when the Indian Ocean remains relatively inactive. But it also comes alight in juicier pulses, displaying incredible images of salivating tropical perfection that every surfer dreams of.

Shortys: An absolutely perfect specimen of a wave with the only thing lacking is the length. Our guests where the first to surf this wave in 2009.

Lizards Nest: A super hollow left that will serve up some of the best barrels available in the whole of Sumatra. Shallow, ferocious and extremely photogenic, it’s a perfect wave for those willing to charge.

Turtles: We can arrange a trip to a fun and playful left-hand peak at this beautiful location in the heart of the turtle nesting area on Bangkaru.

Kiddys corner: When large swells arrive this little gem starts breaking into a deep water cove. Perfect for SUP boards and anyone wanting to learn to surf.
